The Technique

Lost wax casting is a very ancient technique for the production of bronze statues. It is a technique based on wax’s features, such as melting and ‘evaporating’ at high temperatures. The objective of process in fact is to create a model of the artist sketch that can dissolve once heated up (hence the name ‘lost wax’) and substitute the latter with melted metal that, once solidified, will make the final artwork. Here below, follows a description of all phases of melting and the methodologies in use at Fonderia Artistica Mapelli.
