Vertically attached to the artwork\u2019s surface, these melt-carrying channels constitute the arteries through which molten metal flows, eventually occupying the surface let free by the evaporated wax, and serve as \u2018vents\u2019 for air, to avoid the formation of bubbles.<\/p>\n<p>The statue, with its structure of pipes, is covered with liquid foundry soil and protected by a shell of refractory material and chalk.
